Let's Celebrate International Children's Day

Let's Celebrate International Children's Day

It’s great to be a kid! At least, it should be, and that’s the idea behind International Children’s Day. In 1925, delegates at the World Conference for the Well-being of Children proclaimed June 1 as a day dedicated to promoting the rights, health, and happiness of kids everywhere. Why not celebrate the day by doing something special with a child in your life—and let your own inner child have some fun as well!

Well-known inspirational author, Sark, offers some ideas on:

How to Really Love a Child

Be there.  Say yes as often as possible…If they’re unlovable, love yourself… Giggle a lot. Let's Celebrate International Children's Day Surprise them. Say no when necessary.  Teach feelings…Hug trees together.  Make loving safe.  Bake a cake and eat it with no hands… Imagine yourself magic…Reveal your own dreams.  Search out the positive.  Keep the gleam in your eye…Encourage silly.  Plant licorice in your garden.  Open up. Stop yelling.  Express your love.  A lot.  Speak kindly.  Handle with caring.

If you’re playing with young children, remember:

  • If I give it to you and change my mind later, it’s mine.
  • If I can take it away from you, it’s mine.
  • If it’s mine, it will never belong to anyone else, no matter what.
  • If we are building something together, all the pieces are mine.
  • If it looks just like mine, it’s mine.

I thought this was a great opportunity to send my grandchildren a special Children’s Day card but there were only a couple of choices. I hope there are more next year. :)
